Our Charities

The Tasmanian Union Lodge contributes to several main charities; Freemasons Homes, Menzies Research Centre and the ABC Giving Tree. We have also made contributions to the Salvation Army Winter Appeal and various Red Cross Disaster Relief Appeals including Nepal Earthquake, Fukushima, Vanuatu Cyclone Pam and Phillipines Typhoon Haiyan to name a few. We have also supported and given to Bushfire Appeals in Tasmania, Victoria and NSW. Our Lodge, its members and Freemasonry value community and family among its prinicpals and beleifs. Our contributions are local, national and international.

Freemasons' Homes were built in Lindisfarne in 1951 to commemorate the end of the Second World War. This organisation now cares for over 200 people offering them nursinfg home care, respite care, independent living units/retirement villages and serviced appartments. The Board of Directors are all volunteers employs around 185 staff. Freemasons Homes are for Masons and non-masons alike.

Freemasons Assisting Teriary Education Scholarship (FREEMATES) is set up to assist tertiary students with education expenses in conjunction with the University of Tasmania and is generally funded through the Tasmanian Masonic Benevolent Foundation.

Freemasonry Tasmania also donate to the Menzies Research Center via the Freemasons Centenary Memorial Medical Research Foundation (FCMMRF). This is a Tasmania only charity fund to which Tasmanian Union Lodge members donate regularly.

Our Lodge's Benevolence Fund allows us to donate to a great variety of different charities not limited to the aforementioned. It can also be used to assist individuals of our Lodge and community. This fund is funded by our Lodge membership and additional donations from members and non-members alike. Your donation to this this fund or to our Lodge will go towards our community work.
